The Challenge

Nigeria has the largest number of Out-of-School Children (OOSC) in the world. Recent estimates by the United Nations Children’s Education Fund (UNICEF) show that there are over 13.2 million out-of-school children in Nigeria. One out of every five children not going to school is a Nigerian child. Additionally, the Federal Ministry of Education estimates that 50% of in-school children (about 30million+ in primary schools) are not learning because they cannot read or write even when they finish Primary 6. Around 84% of children in the lowest economic quartile cannot read at all.

What we do

Our mission at RLTF is to use the power of locally relevant educational technologies, girl-centred program design and education systems strengthening processes to improve the learning outcomes for over 1 million in-school and out-of-school children across Africa by 2023.

 

Education programs deployed by RLTF will be largely based on the multi-award-winning Mavis Talking Books™ technology and the Mavis Education Model™.

The Mavis Talking Books™ technology and Mavis Education Model™ are tried, tested and proven to improve learning outcomes in literacy and numeracy (English-with-Phonics & Mathematics) for both in-school and out-of-school children with proven optimal value for money.

From End Line Test results, out-of-school children using the Mavis Talking Books™ performed 37.15% better than those going to nearby public and private schools.
